In lay terms, these are fields of study or research involving computing or programming using enzymes, molecules, cells and DNA. This includes computing for the storage of memory in DNA, as if it were a hard-disk. Considerable progress has been made in the area of biocomputing towards performing logic and calculation functions. In other words, it is not just a theory in test; it is proven that it works.
In another development, University Washington researchers have demonstrated that using a brain-to-brain interface, one individual can control the motions of another’s hands. Basically, what this means is that just as the human brain can directly pass instruction to technology, technology can transfer commands and instructions to the human brain.
This raises a question for humanity. With the possibility of technology-biology interaction proven, when advanced capabilities in all these areas are developed, can they be abused in their convergence?
Scenario 1: can transmission systems be developed or hijacked or abused to transmit programming signals to individuals’ minds without their knowledge or approval to alter their brain activity for the purpose of influencing their thoughts? Beyond thoughts, can stealth signals be transmitted to program the brain to alter its memory, cognition, perception and decision-making processes? If that is possible, such technological capability can be used to attain and ensure favorable thoughts, opinions and behaviors from individuals. The question would then be, who would use such a capability and for what purpose?

Can such programmed cells or particles be introduced into the human body via injection on the pretext of medication or vaccination, only to then embed themselves in place to control and transmit instruction to the rest of the cells or DNA structure in the body, ultimately reprogramming the nervous system and the brain? Can this be done in child infancy or even in the fetal stage? Meaning, a child is born or grows to think, live and behave specifically the way it is programmed to deliberately by someone else, and therefore unable to act or react in anyway contrary to what is desired by the programmer?
If either of the above scenarios become possible, then the implications are, that whoever controls such a programming capability, will effectively hold the power to control a population or even the entire human race. Fundamentally, we are what our brains enable us to be, in terms of our thoughts, desires, preferences, interests, opinions, perceptions, cognition and so on. If our brains are controlled to programming, we can effectively be molded into submission or compliance to the programmer.

Effectively, we or our future generations can be programmed to look up to such individuals, be unable to criticize or question or see any fault in that individual and serve with unwavering loyalty regardless the merit of that individual’s actions, decisions or instructions. Effectively, we would become slaves. And we would not even know it. Ruling dynasties could develop, relying on the technology to maintain influence, control and power, with no opposition, forever. The human race can be ruled or governed to its extinction, and no one will do anything to stop it.
Are the scenarios presented herein possible? At present we do not know whether the answer is a yes or a no. However, we are not able to dismiss the scenarios as impossible either, given the current progress made and being made. That I have written an article like this, someone has posted it on Serious Wonder and that you are reading it, are all proof that such technology or threat may one call it, does not yet exist. The subject broached herein is undoubtedly controversial, sensitive and frightening all at the same time. It is also a subject of utmost human concern and interest.
Whether or not the answer to the possibility of biological and genetic computing posing a threat to human freedom or even lives, is a yes or not, it is undoubtedly necessary that we begin thinking about the subject, before we have to answer the questions pertaining to it. For if the enslavement of human minds does become possible through biological and genetic computing or any other means for that matter, if human life and freedom is valued, then means need to be worked upon to pre-empt or prevent the threat.
